Lecler Sheet Mask FAQs

Since Lecler was founded, we’ve noticed many recurring questions about sheet mask use, application and effectiveness – so we thought we’d answer them here. Thank you for your taking the time to improve your skincare knowledge.

How often should I use a sheet mask?

We recommend using the mask twice a week. You can do it more often once in a while if you feel your skin needs it – if it’s cold out, say, or you’ve had a tough week – but return to the normal, twice-weekly pattern once your skin feels replenished. While many people would advocate daily sheet mask use, we don’t think this is necessary provided you have an otherwise enriching beauty regime.

What’s the best time of day to use a mask?

Lecler masks have been designed to sit comfortably on your skin, so it can be used at any time of day – it just depends on your schedule and rhythm of life. Our personal favourite times include the morning, with a cup of coffee, or before bed, curled up with a book.

Why should a mask be kept for 20 minutes? Can I keep it for less / longer?

We’ve calculated that 20 minutes is the optimum time to wear the mask. After the mask is applied, your skin warms up and the pores open, allowing the serum to penetrate deeper into the skin. If you don’t have 20 minutes you can wear it for a shorter period and still reap the benefits. If you do take the mask early, we’d recommend using the remaining serum on your neck, chest or arms – it makes for a fabulous, luxurious moisturiser.

How should I prepare my skin before using the mask?

Use your usual cleanser or a gentle scrub. Also, don’t forget the three-minute rule: the optimum time to use skincare products is within three minutes after a shower or bath, when your pores are open. This greatly increases your skin’s ability to absorb all those detoxifying, moisturising ingredients.

Do I need to apply a cream after using the mask?

Yes, you should use your regular moisturiser after your sheet mask – especially if you plan to go outside.

Can a mask be used instead of a cream?

Masks cannot replace cream because they work in different ways. The simplest way to look at it is sheet masks enrich your skin from the ‘inside’, while cream protects your skin from the ‘outside’. For example, unlike cream, mask serum does not protect the skin from harmful environmental effects, such as pollution or UV light.

Do I need to wash my face after using a mask?

You do not need to wash your face after using a mask; simply pat the excess serum into your skin. You can, however, use a cream moisturiser and apply your usual cosmetics. We’ll take the chance here to remind you that the Lecler Express Refresh Mask is designed specifically to help prepare the skin for make-up. To find out which order to use your skincare, click here.

Can I use the same mask sheet more than once?

A mask sheet is single use only. After use, its card outer packaging can be recycled and additional material disposed of.

Which skin types are best suited to masks?

Lecler masks are suitable for all skin types, but certain mask cater more specifically to certain skin types and problems. For example, the Intense-Hydration mask is great for dry skin, the Anti-Aging mask for regeneration and rejuvenation of the skin cells, to slow down ageing processes and the Express-Refresh mask is great for brightening a dull complexion.

Can I use the remaining serum the next day?

If you re-seal the package tightly, you can. Use it before applying your skin cream.

Should I apply skincare products to my neck?

In cosmetic terminology, when talking about the face, we talk about the neck as well. Therefore, the neck should be given the same attention as the face. If you are using a mask, be sure to pat serum into your neck.

How sheet masks are better than cream masks?

The sheet on the face allows for the creation of a barrier between the skin and the environment, so the mask’s serum does not so quickly dry up and the active substance can be ingested a lot more intensively in the skin several times. Meanwhile, cream masks, when in contact with air, dries more quickly and absorbs much less active substances by the skin.

Does Lecler contain harmful chemicals?

Lecler masks contain no harmful substances such as parabens, sulfates, phthalates. They can be used by both pregnant and lactating women. To learn more about these ‘skincare enemies’, take a look at our blog.

Is there a minimum age limit on Lecler products?

For very young skin, we would never recommend a product that’s stronger than necessary because at that time our skin still produces all the materials it needs. We’d suggest using products like Lecler from the age of approxiamtely 25-30, depending on the condition of your skin.
